Tuesday, Nov 11th - Some great news

Here is some great news. In the course of the last few days, Scott has had periods where he was using his chest muscles/diaphragm to breath. Even though those breaths were still supplemented by the respirator, it shows great determination from his part and it is great progress. One of those periods lasted for 4 hours.

Kirsty and I asked Scott if it was OK to post that great progress on here. We could not get a clear answer from him so we decided to wait for his approval. By now, I have had two reports of Tanner proudly telling people the great news, so I decided that there was no harm in telling you all.

I will not be able to make it to the hospital for a few days. We have stomach flu in the house and I do not want to show up there while possibly contagious.

Steve and I still can't believe that something like this has happened.
We have been trying for days to send this message but can't find any words. I guess it's because we want to say something that will change things or make things better but knowing that we can't do that.

Since we heard the news, we find that we are thinking back in time to Charlie's IP days. Steve and I will always associate Scott with the "Charlie Shuffle". We saw how determined that you were to get him skating. I can still picture him heading down the length of the rink at his own pace with his own goal in mind and you cheering him on. God knows it took Charlie a long time (really long time!) but he got there. In some way this not unlike to the road ahead for you and your family. Please know that just as you supported Charlie, we are here to
support yourself, Kristy and the boys.

Claude knows where to find us, don't hesitate to ask if there is anything we can do.

Kirsty...I see you have family and good friends helping you with everything you need. I can't imagine what your family is going through. My heart goes out to you all.

God speed...

Dear Kristy & Scott,
Since I heard of the accident last week, I have been keeping you both in my thoughts and close to my heart. All the positive energy I can muster is being sent in your direction.

Scott, this is wonderful news. From everything I hear and am reading about you, I get that you are a strong-willed, determined, and goal-oriented man.

You have the strength of your lovely wife, your sweet boys, all your family and many less-known well-wishers behind you. Take all that into your heart and mind and push on, push on...

however not unusual... you still see people wearing this thing! Take care...the MacIsaac's.

Hi, it's Hugh and Terry's daughter Kailee. I just wanted to let you know that everyone at home is praying for Scott. I know you didn't stay long, but I really enjoyed the company of you and your family. . . and I must say that you are some
of the nicest people I know. Just remember that "the greatest healing therapy is friendship and love" and I know that Scott is getting plenty of that. Best wishes and lots of love.

Hello, my friend; You’re on my mind,
Because you're somehow ailing,
But your response to any challenge
Has always been unfailing.
So I’m confident you’ll win again;
Hang in there, and you’ll see;
You’ll be back on top in no time,
Tackling life courageously.

Kirsty and Scott,

Great news buddy. Reminiscing about the days we played soccer for base Kingston. You were always leading by example and you always harped on the young guys about never giving up even when they were dead tired. I know you Scott and I know you have that fighting spirit in you. That is why you will beat this and hopefully some day we will play soccer together again.

My prayers have been with you since I heard the news.
Things haven't been the same at CFCMU since you left. Nobody wants to organize "Adventure Training" anymore. Remember the West Coast Trail and the canoe trips? Thanks for
insisting I go along. You made this "Old Fart" have a good time in spite of himself. You're a great guy Scott, keep fighting.
I'll be in to see you soon

We heard your news from my brother Dan, thru Sylvia. We want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. I am so glad to read about the new developments and to learn that your parents are there with you. We can't offer you much physical support from BC, like the other postings I have read, but please know that we are thinking of your family all of the time and know that the news will continue to get better and better. My mom sends her love too.

Scott, you're a hero, a champion, an inspiration, the standard, a role model and a gift. Please allow me to explain each of these a little further...

You're a hero to anyone who has ever been struck down (by any illness) for not giving up.

Your'e a champion for the cause. Christopher Reeves was known by many around the world, but in our books Scott: You're our hero!

You're an inspiration to us all with your " I'm not finished yet" attitude.

You are the standard for what it takes to be a friend judging by the support of the many, many well-wishers here.

You're a role model for your ability to bring out the best in people around you.

And you're a gift to us all for just merely having met you.( I might add that the value of that gift goes up with how well each of us knows you, but bear in mind though, that it starts pretty high!)

Note: this may not come across as well as it sounded in my head, but know that the intent was to praise Scott for his spirit and his affect on any who know him. Hopefully this does not put him on too high of a pillar, but regardless, I believe his values keep him grounded enough.

The human spirit is incredibly tenacious and can provide the 'push' needed when push comes to shove. I also know Scott that you are able to tap into that resource for all that it's worth.

We can't do much for you physically at the moment - this is your fight - but know that we are cheering for you as hard as we can in all the ways we know how.

It does not go without saying (therefore I will say it!) that I am extremely (I wish I could underline that word) happy with this latest news of your progress. Kirsty: Thank you for giving us this. It is a beacon of hope and reassurance for the many out here in the cheering section.

God speed, Scott, God speed.
