Monday, November 17 - About visits

I know that many of you would like to get in to see Scott. Please be
mindful that he is in the Intensive Care Unit(ICU) which is quite
restrictive. They have been very generous with us (his family) as far
as visits go, and when people drop by the hospital, if Scott is not with
the doctors or nurses, and not sleeping, I will ask him if he'd like to
see the visitor. If he's up for it, he will visit with people; if he's
not, he won't and I will be honest and say "I'm afraid he's just not up
for it right now". I spend most days/eves there, and my in-laws are
there every day as well, but I do have my in-laws and a few close
friends spell me off once in awhile so I can take the boys to some of
their activities. So, if you pop by and it's not me, Scott's folks and
our good friends (our Kingston family), will follow Scott's lead as
well. Also, please keep in mind if Scott has a visitor when the boys
come in to see him, I will also ask the visitor to leave, as they will
not allow too many people and the boys are my #1 priority. Scott has
seen several visitors, and he (nor I) are opposed to visitors, we just
need to be mindful that he is in critical condition, and is simply not
up for it at times.

Thank you ALL so much for your kind words and offers of assistance. I
will post items here when I get myself organized and figure out what I
really do need. The Fire Department are going to hang our outside
Christmas lights for us, and Scott's unit is going to look after snow
removal for the time being, so those are the only things I could think
of for now, but I will get myself organized.

You have ALL been so kind, and please know it has meant the world to
Scott and I. Also, please keep posting in the blog....I honestly think
that when I read the blog entries to Scott, he gets inspired and this is
a huge contributor to his positive attitude, so PLEASE keep them coming
:)

Many, many thanks!

Kirsty

Hey Scott
I just heard of the injury. I know we haven't talked in while, but I still recall all the crazy times growing up. I still sometimes watch the tickle fight at sliver star between you and Big D . The thoughts of my family are with yours.

Friends always

I'm not sure if you will remember us. Mike was one of the few Army guys in Aldergrove 91-95 (you may have seen him managing an EA Club function or two)then we were posted to Kingston 95-04 where I worked at Garrison GC&CC. We are now in Ottawa.

We will pray for you and your family.

Hi again. Thanks for the continued updates. Just wanted you both to know that I am very impressed with your will and courage. Keep up that fighting spirit, you are making progress! My family and I pray for you daily.
I was remembering the other day when the Kingston v/b teams were together at the regionals in Trenton in those crappy, freezing trailor barracks...you and the boys were having a snowball fight in just your t-shirts and shorts, we were all laughing hysterically...remember the good times, they will help you maintain your incredible strength to make more awesome memories in the future. You have a wonderful family and a super amazing wife! Keep the faith.

Another long-distance hello from Ottawa. I've been away from work for a month and a half already... can you believe it? No more getting up at 0530, wearing green and such. I thought I'd miss it, but as it happens, I don't. I like sleeping until 8... or 10, if I wish, and I've sure been spending some quality time in the sewing room.
I'm nearly done my university course; one more little project and then the final. Final arrangements have also been made with my college, so I'm all ready to begin my new life as a computer weenie in January. Not that I haven't been for the last few years, but now it's an official title, not just a personality quirk. :)
I guess I just wanted to say hi and let you know you're in my thoughts daily, Scott. Be patient, my friend; be brave, be hopeful.

Hi Scott,
I just heard about what happened yesterday and I wanted to send a quick message to say that even though we haven't seen each other for awhile I'm sure you haven't changed a bit. I know that growing up with you in Kamloops when you you put your head or heart into something you had to be as good at it as you possibly could, weather it was beating me at a math test or beating me down the ski hill. And this challenge is no different. All of your old highschool buds are pulling for you now. Best wishes to you, Kirsty and your family from all of us back here in B.C. Your old bud George.

Kirsty - so good to hear from you directly! Glad to see (read?) that you are in good spirits and that your protective instincts are kicking in well!! You look after your man and yourself - make sure you get time to take care of you so you can keep taking such excellent care of Scott. Tell him to keep thinking positively and to take strength from all the people here.
With all my best wishes,
Karen

Hi Kirsty and Scott,
Thanks for that update about visitors. I know everyone (including us) wants to show their support that way but we totally understand - this blog is an ideal way to stay connected.

It is so great to hear that Scott continues to make a little progress. Each day at a time for sure. New elevated positions in bed must help the monotony a little.

Kirsty - wanted to let you know that the John Orr Dinner was fabulous, of course, with Terri at the helm. Really classy event and the Lougheeds were thrilled. Really nice also to not have to worry about the dance...in fact, that part was a lot of fun....without hundreds of really drunk students and young alumni!

The team really enjoyed lunch with you last week and we hope to make it a regular occurence - maybe every couple of weeks...hopefully a nice break for you too.

Bruce and Abigale and I are thinking of you all always. Standing by to help where we can and keeping you in our prayers (My mom and sister are also now praying for you - there the good Christians in the family:)).

All good thoughts always,
Judy, Bruce and Abigale

Scott,
I'd like to say this to you, I thank you for teaching me how to play hockey. I have had a great time with this sport, and I never give up. It was how learned the game from you.
Thanks a lot and please get better,
Justin

Hi Scott,
It has been a long time since we talked and it is unfortunate that it comes under this circumstance. I hope you fight this as much as you used to fight me. You always said you could talk me into anything and most of the time you did no matter how much i protested. Sometimes i never had a choice cause you would just show up and pick me up and away we would go. We shared many good times together growing up and since i heard yesterday about your accident i have been remembering all those times. I remember you, Gary and i up in Barnhartvale driving the Mini down the hill and putting it in the ditch. The three of us jumped out of the car, picked it up and put it back on the road. You freaked out the next day when the tires were flat. You had to fix the car before your parents came home from Winnipeg. I remember all the ski trips we went on while you were in Aldergrove. I hope you remember all the good times you have shared with everyone in your life and use them to give you strength and the will to fight on. Stay strong. I wish nothing but the best for you, Kirsty and the Boys. Darcy

Dear Scottie... George just phoned me tonight and told me about your accident and filled me in on your condition as well as this blog. It has been a long time old friend... since that New Years eve party in Kamloops back in 1990. WOW. I have thought of you often over the years when reminiscing with Sean, George, or Darcy. It is heartwarming to see what great support you and Kirsty have and that you can see how many people are rooting for you for a healthy recovery. You have touched the lives of many people and we are all thinking of you and sending you our best. Take care Scottie.... I need to go dig up pics of you in your moondog days dancin in the doorway of the barracks singing "Johnny B Good". Your old friend, Julie

Dear Scott,

You do not know us, but when we heard about your accident from our son, David and his wife, Emilie, you have been in our thoughts so often. We are praying that God will give you the strength each day to take the steps toward recovery.

Your zest for life and determination to reach your goals has been inspiring. So we are thinking about you now and will keep you and Kirsty, your children and family, and your fine friend, Claude in our prayers.
Keep getting better.

Sincerely,

Ross and I loved our visit with you on Thanksgiving at your neighbour's pool. And, to think it was warm enough to watch those boys swimming and today there is snow. Now the five boys can make snow forts. Keep up the good fight! You and your families are continually in our thoughts.

Hi Scott

You may not recognize my name. You helped Martin coach "Les Bleus" this summer. My son, Dominic is still proudly showing off how he can balance that ball on his foot!!! I overheard Benoit and Dominic reminiscing about potential ice cream cones for ten seconds of balancing acts.... You gave so much to the boys this summer. Im certain that with such an incredibly keen and fierce spirit on the field you will make it! Stay in touch with your Incredible spirit. And remember,,, dont give up before the miracle happens! You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers every day.
Celebrate every step!

Hello Kirsty and Scott,

I sent an e-mail to Claude to let him know what a wonderful job he has done here conecting everyone with you and the boys. It was hard at first to not have too much information about Scott and how he was doing. This has been an awesome tool to link everyone together and to help take the load of keeping everyone informed off of you and your family. I just wanted to send a hello and some more support for Scott to keep fighting as we all know he will. I talk to Connor everyday about COACH SCOTT and how he is progressing, he has been very receptive to talking about the whole situation which makes him feel involved. Thank you Kirsty for continuing to update Scott's Blog. If you or the boys need anything, please let us know. Talk to you soon, Chad, Allyson, Clare and Connor.

Who would have thought Scott had this many friends. Scott, my HABS are playing like the Canucks....horrible. Before you know it, they will be playing at the Leafs level. I know you are going to get through this buds so stay positive. I see you received a letter from Jim Dempsey and all I could think of was you yelling at him telling him he was offside, after scoring a goal....and he would get sooo pissed. Kirsty and the boys we will see you at Christmas. Miss you guys.

Hey Scotty,

Glad to hear things are starting to progress. Remember the world was not built in one day. I was looking at your volleyball pictures and your big pipes that you liked to show off while playing. You best get better so you can hit the gym and bring them back to where they were. That should take about a week. Getting sore from singing those U2 songs by myself. GO HABS GO
Stay strong guys and we are always thinking of you.

Kirsty, it's great to hear your voice on this blog. I am thinking of you, Scott, Tanner, Kobe & Rhys every day and sending every positive vibe of energy that I can your way. I hope you've been able to get out and enjoy a little Starbucks treat for yourself - and please let me know if I can pick up the boys one night and take them to Subway for a dinner evening out in style! Thinking of you, my friend. Stay strong and know that we are all here for you and Scott & your boys. Big hugs, Hilary.

Kirsty,

I can't tell you how much I've thought about you and your family over the past few weeks. And reading this blog it's clear that Scott has been a great friend and presence in the lives of so many people. You are clearly a very strong person Kirsty. What a gift you are to your family. I think about you every time I take the boys to the HH for their CAL games. One of these days, I'll see you there and the fries will be on me!! Take care - Laura.
