Wednesday November 19 - Calling all you cooks out there

First of all, while there is no major progress to report, Scott's spirit has been pretty high in the last few days. His determination shows right through him, and that is great to see. He communicates better and better every day. While there is no sound coming out, he puts that giant mouth of his to good use. Kirsty even heard him say "S**T" as he was watching a Canucks game Al Boucher had burned on a DVD for him. Yep, the Canucks had just let a goal in and he had something to say about that.

Now, on to the title of this post.

A lot of people have been prepping meals for the Milne's. We can get this organised. There is, believe it or not, a Web site to help manage that (thank you Sylvia for the referral). If you are interested in cooking for the Milne's, click CONTACT under Scott's Blog's banner. It will open a form to send me an e-mail. Enter your e-mail address and "Meals" in the subject line. If you don't receive an invite after a couple of days, check your SPAM folder.

Bottom line is, I need your e-mail to send you an invitation to be part of that meal group . Once you receive the e-mail, you register to it and sign in. You will have access to the Milne's meal schedule. You will see who is bringing what and when. So you can pick a day to bring something, and be sure that you are not bringing the 5th tuna casserole that week.

On that same page, you will see info as to what they don't like (there pretty easy), when there are extra adults staying there and a drop off location (still to be determined).

It might seem overly complicated, but trust me, it is simple. The site was referred to by someone who has been on the receiving end of it, and it works.

Let the cook-off begin.

Hello Kirsty, Scott and boys,

As I was reviewing the brochure for an upcoming Regional Championship to be hosted here at CFB Kingston, I thought that the excerpt printed on the brochure schedule fitting to share with everyone. It speaks volumes to Scott's true character of determination and strength.

CREED OF AN ATHLETE

The duration of an athletic contest is only a few minutes, while training for it may take weeks of arduous work and continuous exercise of self-effort.

The real value of sports is not the actual game played in the limelight of applause, but the hours of dogged determination and self-discipline carried out alone, imposed and supervised by exacting conscience.

The applause soon dies away, the prize is left behind, but the character you build is yours forever.

Hugs, Cheryl

P.S. Tanner (my Tanner) was very excited to tell me (and I am happy to hear)the pj's fit and are keeping you warm Kirsty!

Let the contest begin!!! Meals as we all know are a challenge, so this will ease off some of the pressure for Kirsty and the Parents. I do know that Kirsty has a big dislike to ONIONS(cooked)! I know she is trying to eat her veggies. I am available to pick up and drop off meals anytime. Progress means to move forward and everyday progress is made. Keep up the good work Scott. Kirsty you make one great Nurse..... your friend always, Cheryl

Darcy just called me and lead me to this website. I have looked for you guys for a long time "on line" and to find you this way isn't the way I would have anticipated it... Nonetheless....Scott...I'm sure that after knowing eachother for 30 years you don't need me to say anything that you don't already know that I'm thinking. Know that you are so loved and all of us back here in BC just miss you so much and wish you well in your recovery.

I called my mom (as you always liked her best) to tell her and she says hi too. There is rare a day that I don't think about you Kirsty and the kids and everytime I'm in Kamloops, I wonder how your parents are too. Too much time has passed my friend...
Love to all of you: Scott, Kirsty, Boys, Norm, Diane, Chris.... Cheryl W.

Hi Kirsty and Scott
Just a quick note Kirsty to say we (I) miss you here at work and hope you are taking care of yourself. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Scott yet but hope to as soon as he is feeling better. I feel I already have a lot in common with him after reading and seeing the way he interacts with the kids. I too love coaching and playing hockey. I know your kids don't know me but if you ever need me too take them anywhere and you don't have a driver please let me know. I am available for anything else as well.
Take care and hope to see you guys soon..

Cheers
Kevin

It has been a while since we have been in touch. I am truly sorry that we had to hook up again under these circumstances. Since hearing the news its been a big trip down memory lane. Just thinking of all of the good times growing up. We just want to let you know our thoughts and hopes are with you. The one thing that we have learned in life is that there is always hope and you can never give up on that. We know that you will rise to the challenges ahead of you and give it your all. Best wishes to you, Kirsty, and you entire family. Larry, Kelly and Joshua

Here is another message from someone who grew up going to Dallas Elementary and then Valleyview with Scott and can still, to this day, picture his magnetic smile and how it lights up his eyes. I am so glad that Scott has so many supporters and that he and his family have such dedicated assistance from friends. We will be sending prayers from Alberta and trusting that Scott's health will improve steadily as he is surrounded by so much love and has so much strength inside of him.

p.s. I totally enjoyed the photos and can remember that awesome winter jacket with the flourescent colours on it!

Hi Scott,

Now that we have some snow, the boys & I were laughing and reminiscing about the time when you and I put all 5 boys in the cardboard box (that my new wing chair came in), closed the flaps and sent them flying down the hill on two crazy carpets. That was hilarious and I know you and I had a great laugh and, since they wanted to do it again, the boys thought it was fun too. We wouldn't get away with that now as most of them wouldn't fit in the box and ALL of them are much wiser!

I'm thinking of you and Kirsty and the boys always Scott. You must persevere and keep your chin up and remember - your rock garden didn't get finished overnight, but it did get finished and it looks great. Maybe now I'll get to help Kirsty with it in the spring.

Love, Deanna

Hey Scottie,

I've moved out of the area and was just informed about your accident. I just wanted to pass along that I know you face
a "big up hill" but I know you've run up alot of hills before. It sounds like you have much support there and I have no doubt
you'll recover from this. Anyone stubborn enough to be a 'nucks fan is stubborn enough to battle back from this.

I'm thinking of you and pulling for you. Best of luck Scottie because even the great ones need that.

Hi Scott,
I just received news of your accident yesterday. I haven't seen you since my wedding 13 years ago. I always loved that you took the time to share that special moment with me. Thanks. I have never met Kirsty or your kids but I know they're wonderful because they're yours! I know you'll fight to make the best recovery possible because you always have worked hard to be the best you could be--afterall, you were a "Star Wars Warrior" on the Dallas Elementary playground! Warriors don't give up. They fight for themselves and their
families. So fight on, warrior! Your friends and family are here to cheer you on!

Stay strong. God bless.

Hey Scotty...
Just Lu, popping in to have some words read to you by Kirsty!
We think of you everyday, sorry I didn't get to see you the other day when I was there to visit, maybe next time! Happy to hear your spirits remain high!
I dedicated my goal, and of course my penality, to you last night in my hockey game! We won too :)
Take care Scotty, we miss you, think of you and love you!

Hey Scott and Kirsty,
It is great to hear of all the love and support that are surrounding you guys. I very much wish that we were not so far away. But I am glad to know that the whole city seems to be looking out for one of its finest! This is truly a testament to how much of an impact you have on those around you.

Our kids continue to have fond memories of your boys and their toys. Zack still talks about cruising around you field in the power wheels! By the looks of the photo on the blog - Looks like you are trading up in the truck department! Big toys for big boys.

Great news about vocalizing your frustration with the Canucks. The good news is, you should have lots of chances to be upset with how many goals they let in ;-0.

While I hope that we will be playing a little beach v-ball when we get there, there is an outside chance that the Harvies roll up in Kingston this summer. No word yet but it looks like we are coming home! Talk now is Ottawa or Kingston. I know what my first choice is...

Anyway, you remain in our thoughts an prayers. Stay tough my friends.
Love, the Harvies

Hi Scott,

Amazing how tough times bring people together isnt' it. Like Larry, since hearing about your accident yesterday I've been going down memory lane...I've also been pretty pissed at you for not staying in touch...but I'll forgive you since I haven't held up my end of the bargin either. So back to memory lane, like my mom, my first memory of you is playing star wars at the school...how fun was that. Or how about climbing Mt. Paul. I'm sure I have some great photos of that in my trunk somewhere. How about grade 7 when we would hang out in the lower field in the fall shoving leaves down eachothers shirts...or Ruckel Point when you broke my heart by telling me you liked my mom best (she is the Kathy earlier in this blog if you didn't remember her new last name). Hard to beleive how time flies. Another fav of mine (but probably not Kirsty's) was when we were out at your parents place on the Shuswap and you and I drank so much we sat in the back of your Prelude and giggled all the way back to Kamloops while Kirsty drove - good first impression hey Kirsty - sorry about that one. Mostly I remember the awesome speach you prepared for my wedding and sent with Kirsty and your Dad. Although you couldn't be there...it was the best toast to the bride I have ever had (or heard...since I'm still stuck with Andy!) You have such a natural way of making those around you feel special. You also continue - so it seems - to be a source of inspiration and motivation to others. Although Darc and George may say you bullied them into things....the challenges you always posed were good natured and kept everyone one their toes. We loved talking about you when you went away and we'd have group lunches at Bonanza...nothing better than a buffet hey boyz?? (thats for Larry, George, Sean, Chris and anyone else who was there when we had a good Scott bashing session!) You should have never left so soon...we had lots of fun at your expense :) Last night when I was driving home on that clear, beautiful night, you were on my mind and I saw a shooting star...I can't tell you what I wished for because then it won't come true...but man I tell you I made a wish! You have lots of people praying for you my friend. I sent out a note to my small group last night too and asked for prayers for you and your family and your doctors. From the sounds of it you are in good hands. Kirsty has always been a strong and amazing woman. I know you guys will get through this....I hope we get a chance to connect soon....I'm thinking 12+ years is far too long. Perhaps it has been 13. Have I seen you since my mom's wedding in Victoria?? How sad it that...but soon...that is a promise...C

Just thought I would drop you all a line to say Lil and I are thinking of you and glad to hear about the progress. It is little steps but they will all progress to big ones.

The days of skiing in Aldergrove and the fun we all had is always in my mind when ever I get to go skiing. The trip to Banff and Whistler were great and that day will come again for you guys.

Good luck and remember we will be keeping you in our prayers.

Al, Lil, and the boys.

Hey Scott.
It's freaking cold outside and I'm glad for the excuse to stay indoors. I'm working on a project for university- doing a little programming in Java, but it's making my head hurt so I thought I'd pop in and say hello. My cat is against my neck- if I sat up suddenly she'd fall down into the chair seat. I think she likes the warmth and companionship. :)

My downloads are complete so I'm off and running again, trying to save the world through the careful application of binary code. 11001101010... :)

This post was brought to you by the letter "C" and the colour green.

Scott,

I have known you a long time( Did Cheryl say 30 years? Holy crap we are gettin old.) Labour day weekends at Scotch Creek. Need I say more. In the time that we have known each other, you have always found a way to get around whatever challenge that presented itself. I'm sure this is no different. Get yourself better. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Stay strong!

Scott,

I have to know, did you steal that pink headband in the skiing photo from Olivia Newton John's Physical Video....and whats with the ski outfit...it looks like the Ugly Canucks shirt from a few years back...As far as I am concerned what goes on in BC, should stay in BC....don't torture us Ontarioans with photos like that.
Miss you guys...you too Kirsty, looking forward to seeing you at Christmas.

Having had the opportunity to work with Scott and play hockey with him I was somewhat acquainted with him. I passed on to the members of this unit here in Vancouver this unfortunate event. From all the members of 744 Communication Regiment (Reserve), our thoughts for a good recovery for Scott and of his family with you.

Hey Scott,

I'm finally writing to you. Before your accident I used to often think: "we really have to do something with the Milnes". Too much time went by without us seing each other. It seems, we take a lot of things for granted.

I am sure you have good medical staff looking after you, but I also know you have something even greater taking care of you. Some call it God, others Buddha or some other name. I call it Love. Although you are a strong determined man, know that in the times when you don't feel that great, that love is there to support you. We are all here to support you.

Whatever it is you believe in, don't stop believing.

I believe in you.

Obviously I'm escaping homework again! :) 744 Comm Regt? What's your connection to them? I served there from 95-99. Good times, good times. Being a snot-nosed know-it-all toon and thinking you ruled the world 'cause you had dog-tags. That shine wore off real quick in the Reg Force... :)

Later, Scotty.

PS... Dave Kennedy? As in Mercury Trek Dave Kennedy?
