Hello all,

I have now made the transition to St. Mary's, and it was more difficult than I had anticipated. This past week has been a tough one due to some medical complications, but I seem to be feeling better this weekend, so hopefully next week will be a better one. Overall it is going well, but it's very different than ICU.

I participate in Physio Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) for an hour each/day, Monday - Friday. They work me very hard and I am feeling it. Although I have not regained any new movement, I am getting stronger with the mobility I currently have, and am very focused on develping these muscles, particularly those in my right arm as this is where I have the most movement so far :)

I've had a few visitors, but visitors are welcome in the evening from 6-8 pm, and on weekends, any time after 10 am. For those who come to visit, or have visited in the past, I apologize if I am sleeping. This has been a big transition and I am feeling exhausted quite often, but I also enjoy seeing all of you, so please feel free to visit if/when you are able.

As for the fundraiser, Kirsty has been keeping me aprised and I have visited the fundraiser portion of this blog and can tell you it is very humbling. I would like to thank everyone who has sponsored/donated items for this event, as well as those who have volunteered their time to organize it. I am going to try very hard to get to the fundraiser, but my recovery will dictate whether or not this is possible. I am not currently allowed to leave the hospital unless it is for medical purposes, but I'm working on it, and will try my best to at least make an appearance.

So, thank you all so much for your continuous support of Kirsty, the boys and I - we TRULY appreciate it!

Scott, Captain of Team Milne B)

So nice to finally have an update, Scott. I completely understand the long silences but that doesn't help me like them any better!

Your new routine will get smoother as you go... transitions as big as that are always rough.

I'm a month in to college, and whole I no longer think it's easy (300 pages of reading is a typical homework assignment) I am still loving it. I've written my first Java program and will begin SQL, a database language, soon.

I won't be able to attend your benefit; I have reading week that week and will be spending it with mum in BC. I send my love and best wishes, however, for a smashingly successful event.

You're in my thoughts and prayers...

Susan

Hi Scott and family!

Great to hear your voice here and happy to know you are beginning to transition. Rehab is like a full-time job! Stick it to the man!

An update on Will - our little stud is walking with his walker most of the time. He needs someone with him for balance, but is so stinking strong! He feels embarrassed walking in front of his peers but is slowly starting to move beyond that. He loves to walk around Walmart - did it for an hour last week (patience mommy...I hate Walmart).

Paige is trying out for school softball today, her league softball starts next month and she is still playing soccer. She is officially taller than mom now!

I ran my first half marathon a few weeks ago and kept you in my thoughts - especially at mile 11...you carried me the last 2.1 miles:)

Love to all of you!! Keep the faith and hang on to hope!

Hey, Scott. Haven't been home in a while, so I've been anxiously awaiting an update. Glad to hear you're getting that right arm stronger...I'm pretty sure you'll be able to put that to use lifting some 26oz weightsfrom Scotland ;) I should be home the weekend of the party, so if you can't charm them into letting you go, I'll drop by. Take care, thinking of all of Team MILNE every day.

So nice to hear the move is going well. The progress so far is awesome. I am very proud of you. Kathy and I will be coming to the party and look forward to seeing you there. At the very least, I would like to come by and see you at St Mary's. Talk to you soon.

Keep your stick on the ice.

It was so great to hear from you. This blog is such a special place to visit because not only is it great to hear from you and Kirsty, but it is also wonderful and uplifting to see all the love and support you have from your friends.

I have a quote in my office that says, "Friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly". Watching the last few months unfold for you has certainly put action behind this quote for me.

When I talked to your parents a few weeks ago they too said that they were so overwhelmed by the love and support that they have seen by your "Eastern" family. You most certainly took your dynamic energy and made a huge impact on the community in which you have decided to make your home. Congratulations my friend...your dynamic personality has helped surround you with angels to help you through this new challenge.

Your optimism and courage always brings a smile to my face! You mom said I can call and talk to you soon (provided you are up for it)...I can't wait since it has been over 12 years since I heard your voice...it will be fun to catch up! Love and laughter....Cheryl

Scott,
sorry for the delay in writing. Just want you to know that we are one of many families thinking about you. We bought our tickets to the dance, but as it is close to Sina's due date (boy on the way!), we won't be unable to attend. I will def stop by and see you soon.
You still have a few dozen things to teach me on the soccer field!!

The following is another poem from that wonderful book kirsty gave me,

If Ever You Feel Discouraged.....
Hang in there and have patience with yourself and the situation.
Live in the moment, one day at a time,
not fretting about the past or worrying about the future.
Refuse negative thoughts, replace them with positive ones.
Look for the good things in your life,
and make a point of appreciating them.
Believe in yourself and know
that you have the power to do anything.
You are the one ultimately the in charge of your life
and the only person in the world who can change it.
you must do what needs to be done to make your present and future
everything you want it to be.

Shelley

Scott: We are certainly hoping that the transition to St. Mary's has become smoother for you and you are feeling better. Of course, we couldn't let you go there without knowing that we were certainly thinking of you and we understand you had a nice conversation with one of the hockey mom's from Nick's team this year who we sent with our well wishes. Nick had to give a speech this week in school and he was to write it on something that was important to him and something he wanted the kids to know about. We thought you would want to know that we are sure they really enjoyed his topic which was "Coach Scott". So now you have the kids in his class cheering you on as well. We certainly look forward to the dance next Saturday. Hopefully you are up to it to come and see everyone.

Dear Scott and Milne family, Every since your accident, we've been thinking of you. We met last yr when Kurtis played with Tanner on the KU soccer team. They were such brief conversations with Scott and Kirsty but always filled with family humour and sports stories, soccer and hockey of course.

Congratulations on your continued recovery, Its a long road ahead but we wish you the very best always.... the Michels' family
